This is Caine’s story, which details real life in today’s tough inner city. The Hughes' are young, aggressive and untouchable film-makers who intend to show you the real world, and do it with style. The movie is hilarious, sad, suspenseful and very educational for those who think there is racial equality in USA. If you don't change in time, all your past sins will come back to you. It's about changing your life in time, before it's too late. The story is great, in some points resembling some greek tragedy, with a storyline used successfully in other movies like Carlito's Way, Goodfellas, American History X and many others. for giving a can of contraceptive foam to an unmarried coed during a lecture tour on birth control.
The voice-over works really well, making Menace a sort of black "Goodfellas". On ApBill Baird, father of four, was declared a menace to society and sentenced to three months in a rat-infested Charles Street Jail, Cambridge, Mass. In heartbreaking detail the main characters narrate us through youth criminality, drug-dealing, racism and a lot of other nasty stuff. There, in the shadow of the riots of 1965 and. The shootings and bloodlettings are just to make it more realistic, which is pretty much the goal of the movie. Directors Albert and Allen Hughes and screenwriter Tyger Williams were barely into their twenties when they sent shock waves through American cinema and hip-hop culture with this fatalistic, unflinching vision of life and death on the streets of Watts, Los Angeles, in the 1990s. Well, besides the violence the movie is great in many other ways. There are brutal beatings as well as bloody shootings, all shot much better than your average action-movie. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.5 and a MetaScore of 76.
The violence used is also excessive and very graphic. Menace II Society is a 1993 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 44 minutes. Remember the kid who played Jada Pinkett’s son, Anthony, in Menace II SocietyHe was the lil’ kid who Caine (played by Tyrin Turner) had to shield from the hail of bullets in that drive-by, after the brother of the girl Caine had gotten pregnant decided to get payback for Caine telling his sis’ that the baby wasn’t his and to get ta’ steppin. Instead of using hand held cams and grainy film the Hughes' shoot their film with style, influenced by John Woo, and action-comics.
It proves effectively that a gritty street-drama doesn't have to look bad in order to be realistic. There are many reasons to it, but I think what makes it so special is it's sense of style.
